Four Star Rewards

Entering the 2009 North Carolina Home Builders Association Annual STARS Awards Contest was daunting for us.  Did we really have what it takes as a small custom home builder here in Brunswick County to go up against an entire state full of high-end, high-quality builders.  At best we we hoped to at least get a token honorable mention.  When we were asked if we were coming to the annual gala celebration in Charlotte, NC we thought maybe that might just happen.

Fast forward to the black tie event as we sat amongst some of the very finest in the building industry.  To say we were floored when Blue Sky Building Company was announced not as an honorable but four times, yes four times as the winner… well we just in awe.  What a fantastic year for us and what an honor to represent Brunswick County’s homebuilding industry.

It started with winning the first place STARS Award for the best logo for a builder.  While we did put a lot of work into our logo it is just secondary to what we do as our profession.

The first place STARS Award for all single family homes in the $500,000 to $750,00 price range went to our Shoreline Drive Residence entry affectionately dubbed Knot On Call.  This was a knock down of an existing residence on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.  We hoped to move the home and repurpose it.  But it was either move the house and cut down very old Live Oak trees or knock the house down and keep the trees.  We kept the trees.  The new custom home looks like it has been there for a generation.  It captures views of the waterway, marsh as well as Sunset Beach Island and the new Sunset Beach bridge that was started at the same time we started the construction.  We finished the home first…  This home will be around for generations.

Next we received top honors with the first place STARS Award for the Preserve Point Residence we lovingly refer to as Grand Slam.  This lodge style home sits on a nature preserve at Ocean Ridge Plantation.  Our clients wanted a home that reflected the warmth and character of the many lodges they fell in with while travelling.  The interior features extensive millwork, curved beams, stone fireplace, and a myriad of many other cool features.  The double rear porches look out over a fire pit and man made water feature of a stream and waterfall.  Golfers approaching the green of the 7th Hole of Panther’s Run Golf Links get to appreciate the rear facade as they play through.

Finally the Preserve Point Residence also received the first place STARS Award for the Best Special Project – Millwork.  Considering we had 6 craftsman trimming full time for almost 3 months we completely agree on this one.   The millwork in this home is detailed and extensive.  And beautiful!

What a stellar way to start our NCHBA STARS run.  We sincerely want to thank all of our awesome trade partners, suppliers and clients.  We truly have the best clients in the world.
